ISA Debate Contest
The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Nagpur City Branch held a non-academic debate for the members of the Society, on the 18th of May, 2019 as ‘Debates for Anaesthesiologists’. Three topics encompassing the non-clinical aspect of the Anaesthesiologists were fiercely debated upon. Freelance and Corporate Anaesthesiologists working at prestigious Hospitals and Medical Institutes from Nagpur, put forth their points of opinion in an intense and intellectually high fought debate.
President, Dr. Manisha Shembekar welcomed the gathering right to speech and opinion is a fundamental right. Everyone in a democracy has an equal right to forth his opinion.
The debate started with Dr. Umesh Ramtani, Assistant Professor at IGGMC, Nagpur, who spoke in favour of the motion ‘Given a choice, I would like to be reborn as Anaesthesiologist!’ & Dr. Gunjan Badwaik, Consultant Anaesthesiologist spoke against the motion. The second topic of debate was ‘Working as a Corporate Anaesthesiologist is more gratifying than a freelance anaesthesiologist’. Dr. Ravindra Mundada spoke for the motion and Dr. Sachin Sadavarte spoke against the motion. Dr. Saurabh Barde spoke for and Dr. Vikram Alsi spoke against the motion on the third topic of debate ‘Conferences are a waste of time and money’.
The debate was judged by two distinguished senior Anaesthesiologists of the city, Dr. Vivek Bhargava and Dr. Narendra Tamhane. The President along with the judges congratulated and awarded the winner of the competition Dr. Gunjan Badwaik and the runner up, Dr. Vikram Alsi. Dr. Anjali Bhure, National Governing Council member, updated the members about the newly launched ISA Professional Indemnity Scheme & ISA Legal Cell and Dr. Saurabh Barde, President-elect, explained to the audience about the importance of getting enrolled as ISA FBF members. Around 50 members attended the Debate.
The master of ceremony was Dr. Swapna Bhure and ended with the vote of thanks delivered by Hon. Secretary Dr. Soma Cham.
