ISA – NCB organizes CME on Geriatric Anaesthesia
Indian Society of Anaesthsiologists – Nagpur City Branch organized one day CME on Geriatric Anaesthesia on 22nd June 2014. Over 175 delegates from Nagpur and nearby cities in Vidarbha attended the CME. Dr NArendra Tamhane, President of ISA – NCB welcomed all. The program was inaugurated by lighting of Samai at the hands of Chief Guest, Dr Sunil Lanjewar, Professor & Head, Department of Surgery, IGGMC, Nagpur. Dr Sanjay Upadhye, formar Professor & head, Dept of Anaesthesiology, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai was Guest Speaker for the CME.
The academic program included lectures, case based learning sessions and panel discussion by distinguished faculty. Comprehensive discussion about medical problems in old age and anaesthesiologist’s role in peri-operative care of aged people was carried out. Dr B.M. Rajurkar spoke on anaesthetic implications of anatomical and physiological changes in geriatric population. Dr Vaishali Shelgaonkar discussed pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of anaesthetic drugs in geriatric patients. Dr Sanjay Upadhye highlighted issues of high risk surgeries in geriatric patients. Dr S.K. Deshpande and Dr Pratibha Deshmukh conducted two case based learning sessions. Lastly an interesting panel discussion on post-operative care in geriatric patients was moderated by Dr Ashutosh Chaoji (project leader for the program) and Dr Rashmi Shingade. The panelists included Dr Sanjay Upadhye, Dr Shubhada Deshmukh, Dr Soma Cham and Dr Sheetal Dalal.
Dr Sandhya Manjarekar, Dr Patwardhan, Dr Kolarkar, Dr Shakir, Dr Rahatekar and Dr C.S. Cham chaired various sessions. Dr N.G. Tirpude and Dr Charuta Gadkari were observers for the CME from Maharashtra Medical Council. MMC had granted TWO credit hours for this CME.
On this occasion, new issue of e-Sense (newsletter of ISA-NCB) on Diabetes was launched at the hands of Guest Speaker, Dr Sanjay Upadhye. The contributors for this edition included Dr Shailesh Pitale, endocrinologist from Nagpur and Dr Vaishali Shelgaonkar, Associate Professor in Anaesthesiology, IGGMC, Nagpur.
Dr Devayani Thakur conducted the program. Dr Saurabh Barde, Organising Secretary of the CME and Honorary Secretary of ISA NCB proposed vote of thanks. Team of executive body of ISA NCB took efforts to make the program a grand success. The program ended with National Anthem.
